Texas Cure-All: Frozen Margaritas

I've been living here a week now, and already have had more conversations about Margaritas than a Senior about to go to Mexico on Spring Break.  In the hallways at work, the Texan natives were lamenting about the heat that will blast us all come July. . . and one peppery gal who's been with the company over ten years chirped in her most precious southern drawl, "Oh well that's when the Margarita machine comes out!". You would not expect this coming out of a woman wearing pearls and a St. John cardigan. Her name was Kelly. Other mentions of the Margarita have been tossed around as if it's the state's Robitusson, the Texas Band-Aid for discomfort--the Lone Star liquor suitable for even the fanciest of occasions.

Then, after having two myself at the most brilliantly kitschy Tex-Mex restaurant with my mother and father-in-law (La Hacienda Ranch) I spotted this proudly displayed over the fireplace.

Only in Texas, can you get a signed letter from George W. where he commends you on your "hard work, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit"--for inventing the worlds first frozen margarita machine. Yeah. . . Texas and I are going to get along just fine.

Finally....

A magazine to help me decide when it's time to "break up with your horse".

Welcome to my Texifornia!  While we're migrating to Dallas, not Luckenbach, the lyrics to this wonderful song hit home for Eric and I.

Luckenbach, Texas / Back to the Basics of Love
George Strait

Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin'
Got us feuding like the Hatfields and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs and
Newberry's train songs and Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach, Texas ain't nobody feelin' no pain

So baby, let's sell your diamond ring
Buy some boots and faded jeans and go away
This coat and tie is choking me
In your high society you cry all day
We've been so busy keepin' up with the Jones
Four car garage and we're still building on
Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love

Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin' got us feudin'
Like the Hatfield and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs and
Newberry's train songs and Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach, Texas ain't nobody feelin' no pain

Deep in the Heart of Texas
George Strait
The stars at night - are big and bright
Deep in the heart of texas.
The prairie sky - is wide and high
Deep in the heart of texas.
The sage in bloom - is like perfume
Deep in the heart of texas.
Reminds me of - the one I love
Deep in the heart of texas.
The cowboys cry - ki-yip-pie-yi
Deep in the heart of texas.
The rabbits rush - around the brush
Deep in the heart of texas.
The coyotes wail - along the trail
Deep in the heart of texas.
The doggies bawl - and bawl and bawl
Deep in the heart of texas.
